![]() ![]() Unlikely, perhaps, but possible and not a good idea.Ĭhances are this will fix you right up, certainly did for the mess my buddy made of a stylus - dog hair, too much grunge from used records, and too much "cleaning spray" left a sticky mess. DO NOT pull it forward or push it back to "clean" the diamond, it's tear resistant enough to pull the cantilever clean out of the suspension, or worse dislodge the diamond from the cantilever. The Magic Eraser is hard enough to scrape nearly any reasonable gunk off while soft enough to do no damage at all to the diamond. lift and drop it a couple times.ĭollar to a donut you have some crap on the stylus that is preventing it tracking properly. You just want the diamond to penetrate the foam, no need for any more pressure than that. It's made of melamine foam.Ĭut off a small piece and set it on the turntable, then gently lower the stylus onto it. Go to the grocery store and get a Magic Eraser, in the cleaning or household department. Is this what all Ortofons sound like? If so, I can't understand why these 2Ms are stock on so many new turntables. So that makes me a little leery of buying a new stylus for this Ortofon only to have the same sound. I finally had enough and sent the turntable down the stairs. No amount of adjustment would take care of it. I used to have a Fluance turntable with an Ortofon 10M that sounded the same way from new. Can a worn stylus cause this distortion? I'm the third owner, so there's no way of knowing how many hours are on it. I'm playing records that I know are perfectly fine, but this thing makes them sound like garbage. Even with the weight off, the turntable level, and the tracking set at zero (for calibration) the arm still has a strong return to the starting point, almost like the weight is on. The turntable is level, tracking force is at 1.75 grams (per the manual), the stylus is clean, anti-skate is at the second position.Īnother issue I have is with the anti-skate. S and T sounds are distorted and over-emphasized. The turntable has the stock Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, and the Tube Box has stock tubes. I recently bought a used Debut Carbon with a Tube Box DS and am having some issues with it. ![]()
